The caption above this pic I saw today said, “When you take care of things, they last!”
Funnily enough the past few days I have been thinking about the importance of investing in marriages and what makes them last. Often in a marriage, the longer husband and wife are together, the easier it is to let things slide. We get beyond comfortable, and more like lazy. Instead of GIVING to the relationship we begin to TAKE ….. we TAKE each other for granted, we TAKE more freedoms to do whatever we want, and TAKE less time preferring, blessing, investing, and showing our spouse we love them.
I can’t tell you how many times we have prayed with couples, and when asked if they are still doing fun little things for each other, we call it ‘love in action’, one of them says “Well they already know I love them so I don’t think I really need to show it or say it all of the time.” You can imagine what kind of “heartwork” (instead of homework) we give them. ♥️
You see, when we take care of things, they last! Just like this sweet looking car …. it’s regularly checked and maintained. It is refueled and restored if something is broken. It is washed, polished, and covered.
We can learn a lot from this photo.
Give. Invest. Polish. Cover. Refuel.
Which looks like this:
Buy flowers
Take walks
Go on picnics
Rub those smelly feet
Play a game
Make a candlelight dinner
Write notes
Dress up
Buy the chocolate
Give that massage
Pray over one another
Do what the other person likes whether you like it or not. Be selfless. Prefer each other. Put love in action. ❤️ Make it last.
